These are a Few of My Favorite Things

Sing along!

It's what I would like to put as my favorite things on Facebook, but I want my info to appear clever and uncluttered, so I am saving it for my blogiverse.

Dumb movies on Netflix and iced tea from Wawa.
Knowing the name of P-Hilton's chihuahua (not Perez).
Ranch dressing topping my buffalo wings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

I have two sisters, I love them like crazy.
On Skins once Chris dressed up like he was ol' Miss Daisy.
I love Jason Mraz and I melt when he sings.
These are a few of my favorite things.

If there's Paul Blart, or The Decemberists
I'lI start to burn with rage
Because I like Seth Rogen and Tay Taylor Swift,
I know that I'm not my age.

The Grandfather

The Grandfather sounds like a sensible name for an episode of Gossip Girl.  It's simple and sort of classy.  I mean, grandfather is a normal word.  I have said things like "oh, my grandfather loved old Hess trucks" or "my grandfather chewed way more than was necessary,"  but I would never use the word grandfather as a name.  "Hey, Grandfather, what's up?"  Sounds weird.  I would call him something along the lines of Poppop or Grandpa or Zayde or anything other than grandfather.  It just sounds bizarre.

Nate, however, thinks it's totally normal to call his gramps Grandfather.  I think the show's writers think it sounds more upper crust if Nate calls him by a formal title.  It's like how his family calls him Nathaniel.  Yeah, it's total crap.  I don't know families like the Vanderbilts, but I can't imagine that anyone in this year would call their grandfather Grandfather.  Save that for ol' Cornelius Vanderbilt.

Sister

Twice, I have written essays for my little sister instead of writing blog entries.  She always tells me that I can post them online after her professors get them, but it just seems a little risky, since these are totally googleable.  Seriously though, why am I doing my sister's homework?  It isn't hard stuff.  Last time I wrote about Stride gum and this time I wrote about The Office, which I have recently become obsessed with.  About time. I think I sort of just like writing about stuff like this.  It's fun and stupid.  It's not like she is making me discuss political theory from 1940s Great Britain.  That I would not do. That my father would do.  Ah, what a corruptable family.

Strange Fears

When I was in fourth grade, I could never sleep at night because I always had one of two nightmares.  I was either hiding in a tree while a gloved witch looked for me below or I was falling from a tall tower into a rosebush and getting my eyes torn out by thorns. Gross, I know.  Now you get why I couldn't sleep.

These dreams weren't just manifestations of my overactive imagination.  I used my imagination to dream up new ways to act out Titanic, Spice World, Anastasia, and Grease.  No, these were my dreams remembering the two scariest movies I had ever seen, The Witches and Faerie Tale Theatre's Rapunzel.  Those movies introduced me to the two scariest women I had ever encountered, Anjelica Huston and Shelley Duvall. Both actresses reiterated their statuses as the scariest women ever in, respectively, Ever After and The Shining, but I have a feeling that Anjelica Huston plays the role of terrifying witch in a lot of things.  Later on, I saw the newer, amped up The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and I met Tilda Swinton, who played the White Witch.  She was also in this crazy, technological movie, Teknolust and hey guess what, I was scared of her.

This year at the Oscars, Tilda and Anjelica were asked to present the award for Best Actress.  And I got scared.  I literally could not look at the screen.  The only thing that would have made it worse were if the Duvall monster showed up.  It was actually so hard to believe that oldish Brad could ever have fallen in love with the terrifying Tilda.

A few years ago, my baby sister watched The Witches and told me that it was a really cute movie.  But it stands out in the mind as the most horrifying film of all time, and I have seen Silence of the Lambs. For the rest of my life, I will be terrified of three kids movies and three actresses that starred in them.

Manamana

Watch this commercial.  I was obsessed with it in high school.  And I just rewatched it and I totally know why I was obsessed with it.  Maybe I'll start again.

The Many Faces of Facebook

I first joined Facebook my senior year of high school, around October of 2005.  Liz Skale invited me to join, because at that point, you could not join high school Facebook unless another member asked you to join.  Oh yes, I said high school Facebook.  You could only be friends with people who were in high school networks. But I didn't need to worry, because I didn't really know anyone on Facebook anyway.  I mainly just chilled at Myspace.

And then things changed.

High school and college Facebook merged, allowing me to be friends with college people, as well as the 10 high school people I knew.  It also starting allowing us to upload and share pictures.  Whoa, it's like magic!  And then more of my friends started joining.  So in turn, Myspace became lame for anyone not in a band and I deleted it.

And then you could be in a work network and join Facebook.

And then you could be anybody and join Facebook.

And then everyone had parents on Facebook, who used it to share pictures with their cousins and siblings and to find their high school friends from 34 years previously. My god.

Earlier this year, people freaked out because Marky Mark (Zuckerberg) changed Facebook to the new Facebook.  But after some getting used to, we all made peace with the fact that our profile info was no longer the first thing you see.

But then he had to switch it up all over again!  And I don't like this whole Twitter deal. It's confusing and weird-looking.  I try not to complain when he changes little things on Facebook (with the exception of all of those apps, like What is Your Porn Name), but this time I am complaining. I won't join any groups or change my status (or whatever it is now) to whine about it, but I will complain here, because I miss my old Facebook.  Not the way it was when I still had no friends on it.  Not even the way it was this past November.  Just the way it was last week.  When I still understood it.

Rant over.

I Will Not Write About Greek Again

Ughhh but I so badly want to write about Greek again.  Bite my tongue.  Well, since I'm typing, bite my fingers.  Can't discuss any of the videos I just watched or any of the spoilers I am trying to avoid.  Okay, Gossip Girl instead.

I just watched the long awaited new episode of GG.  I loved it actually.  But what I love more are those Daily Intel posts on nymag.com, so I am waaaaiting until 9 am for that to show up.  But I have class at 9:25, so I can't actually read it until after class.

Spoiler alert:

But half the fun of Gossip Girl is reading what Chris and Jessica thought of the episode. Like uh, what is with Chuck's weirdo storyline?  Nate got cuter, but why does his character even exist?  Blair should have been fiercer when it came to attacking Rose from Related (hot for student teacher).  Serena had her first encounter with a boy who wasn't attracted to her.  I'm surprised she didn't try to set him up with her brother when he said he was gay.  She is all wannabe supportive and all and she knows so few gay people.

I loved Nelly Yuki in the fat suit.  And Penelope wearing a maid's costume next to Dorota.  I'm still confused as to why only one Constance Billard student can go to Yale. Two went from my year at Cherry Thrill East.  And why can't they get accepted regular admission if they are denied early?  And why are the admissions people so fickle about accepting students?  They can't just keep changing their minds every other day.   It's rude.

I'll write more after I read what dear Chris and Jessica have to say.

Adios!
