The Grandfather

The Grandfather sounds like a sensible name for an episode of Gossip Girl.  It's simple and sort of classy.  I mean, grandfather is a normal word.  I have said things like "oh, my grandfather loved old Hess trucks" or "my grandfather chewed way more than was necessary,"  but I would never use the word grandfather as a name.  "Hey, Grandfather, what's up?"  Sounds weird.  I would call him something along the lines of Poppop or Grandpa or Zayde or anything other than grandfather.  It just sounds bizarre.

Nate, however, thinks it's totally normal to call his gramps Grandfather.  I think the show's writers think it sounds more upper crust if Nate calls him by a formal title.  It's like how his family calls him Nathaniel.  Yeah, it's total crap.  I don't know families like the Vanderbilts, but I can't imagine that anyone in this year would call their grandfather Grandfather.  Save that for ol' Cornelius Vanderbilt.
